GreyCupGarry - RIP

Garry Terpstra was a great friend and tireless worker for CFL Fans Fight Cancer. We all miss him each and every day. He unfortunately passed away December 7, 2008.
“”Never take life for granted. It’s way too short to sweat the small stuff.” - Garry Terpstra, November 2008
Do not stand on my grave and weep
I am not there I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in the snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am a gentle Autumns rain
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
I am the birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
So do not stand on my grave and cry
I am not there…. I did not die

“We all lost a friend today. A legend, even. Once you met Garry, it was impossible to ever forget him. If there was ever somebody that so defined what it means to be a CFL fan, to treat everyone the same, with that wonderfully overeager hospitality of his, it was Garry.
I will always remember (as will Kace, I’m sure), her first Grey Cup in 2005. We had been out and about for a great number of hours and were just dozing off to sleep… probably four in the morning. And from three stories below, the bar door opened, and we heard a distinctive voice bellow. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGO OOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSS!!!”
That was the passion of Garry. He had it for the Argos, he had it for the CFL, and he had it most of all for all his friends and family who are missing him so dearly today.
Whereever Garry is now, as so many have said, I have no doubt the party has started. And I have no doubt that somewhere in the middle is Garry, with a huge grin for anyone and everyone.
Next year, every year, we’ll pour one extra. And we’ll raise it to the sky in memory of one of the kindest souls we ever met. And we’ll think about all the good times we shared. Then, like your example for so many years, we’ll go have one hell of a party.
We miss you, Garry. *I* miss you.” - Cameron HayGlass, December 7, 2008
“Garry was an incredible friend that I will miss greatly
I was fortunate enough to receive a large dose of Garry’s hospitality last summer when I stayed at his home for about 6 weeks while out east. Garry, Brad and Ally made me feel welcomed and comfortable and I thank them for that. He loved the CFL, Argos, his family and his numerous friends.
He was quick to tell you if you were out of line but even quicker with a pat on the back, a smile or his engaging sense of humour. I can’t help but think he’s at peace and sharing a few belly laughs with one of his favourites John Candy.
I treasure the time we spent together and I will miss my friend … Happy Trails Cowboy” - Derek Dale
“I am truly feeling sadness and disbelief over the loss of GreyCupGarry! I’ve once said of him that he was a man that treated me like I was his own son over the last five years that I’ve known him & met with him @ every CFL get-together! That said, it’s like I’ve lost my CFL-fan patriarch” - Alex Chow
“Grey Cups will never be the same without your smile and your infectious spirit. Miss you Garry! Proost!” - Kim Fairfield
